Storm Damage Cleanup TREE SERVICES
Storm cleanup is more than hauling away a few branches. Wind, saturated soil and falling trees can create a combination of visible debris and less obvious hazards that must be addressed in the right order.
The first priority is controlling hazards. Complete debris removal, stump work and long-term tree care may occur during the same project or as separate follow-up services.
Is a tree on a home, vehicle or power line; or blocking the only safe access to your property? Visit our Emergency Tree Service page or call McAllister immediately. Stay away from damaged trees and assume every downed electrical line is energized.
A downed tree may not have struck a structure, but it can still block access, damage landscaping and leave large amounts of timber and brush across the property.
High winds can spread branches, tree tops and brush throughout lawns, driveways and wooded areas. Cleanup may require cutting, chipping, hauling and separating large wood from smaller debris.
Broken branches can remain lodged in the canopy or caught in nearby trees. These are sometimes called “widow-makers” because they may fall without warning.
Saturated soil and high winds can lift a tree’s root plate or leave the trunk leaning on neighboring trees. The remaining root system may continue to move after the weather has passed.
A tree can survive the initial storm but retain broken unions, torn limbs, root damage or a new lean. These conditions may require pruning, monitoring, arborist evaluation or removal.
When a tree blocks the only driveway or prevents emergency access, the situation may require urgent response through Emergency Tree Service. Once access is restored, broader cleanup can continue through this service.
Large properties may have several damaged trees, scattered debris and multiple work zones. These projects require careful prioritization so the most serious hazards are addressed first.
How it works
McAllister gathers information about active hazards, access, damaged structures, utilities and the amount of debris on the property.
Immediate risks are addressed before general cleanup. This may include removing suspended limbs, stabilizing damaged trees or restoring access.
Standing trees may need corrective pruning, monitoring, removal or additional assessment after the primary cleanup is complete.
The completed work, remaining recommendations and cleanup scope are reviewed with the property owner.
Storm Damage Cleanup TREE SERVICES
Not every damaged tree needs to be removed.
Cleanup crews should not make preservation decisions based only on how the tree looks from one angle. When the answer is unclear, McAllister may recommend Arborist Services to evaluate whether pruning, monitoring or removal is the appropriate next step.
Do not walk beneath hanging limbs, climb on fallen trees or allow children and pets into the cleanup area.
Storm-damaged wood can be under extreme pressure. Branches and trunks may shift or release suddenly when cut or moved.
Assume every fallen line is energized.
Moving small, loose debris from a clearly safe area may be manageable. Cutting suspended limbs, uprooted trunks or tangled trees is much more dangerous.
Chainsaw cuts can release stored energy and cause trunks or branches to roll, split or spring without warning.
Photographs may help with the cleanup estimate and insurance documentation. Do not approach an unstable tree to get a better image.
Storm damage is not always easy to evaluate from the ground, especially when limbs are suspended or trunks have shifted. McAllister Tree Service can assess the damage, explain the safest next step and provide the equipment needed for cleanup or removal. Storm Damage Cleanup TREE SERVICES
Storm cleanup pricing depends on the amount of work, the hazards involved and the equipment required to complete the project safely.
Photos can help with initial triage, but an on-site evaluation may be necessary before the complete scope and price can be confirmed.
Insurance coverage depends on the cause of the damage, what the tree struck, whether access was blocked and the terms of the individual policy.
A homeowners policy may handle a tree that damages a covered structure differently from a tree that falls in an open yard without causing structural damage. Debris removal, driveway access and additional tree work may also be subject to separate limits or exclusions.
When safe, take photos before debris is moved and contact your insurer as soon as practical.
Do not delay urgent hazard control solely to wait for an adjuster when the tree presents an active threat.
